Our friend and excecutive director of our partner non-profit Brecken Swartz managed to get her luggage in Chengdu and was happy to be able to donate $20,000 on behalf of HandReach to fund burn care for children in rural China. Brecken's back in the US and will have updates on how all the children are doing.
Great initiative !
hey Julia, hey Larry! Terrific work, and what a great chance it was to pitch in on such a good cause. You guys really got the ball rolling!! Good luck with the project as it progresses - and definitely let us know if any more help is needed! xx
We will be sponsoring an event along with Handreach, our partner and main organizer in this fall called the Crazy Monkey Moon Dance Party to bring together youth and adults to raise funds for The Sichuan Hope Project to provide world-class prosthetics, rehabilitation, and support services for these children as they grow through adulthood.
HandReach's coordinator in Chengdu, Ouyang, and HandReach board member Luo Yi spent the day (June 28) in a jeep carrying money to a school in Qingchuan, a very remote location in Sichuan that hasn't received much in the way of relief efforts after the earthquake. HandReach will continue collecting money through the summer and autumn, and by the time winter comes, it should be clear what the Chinese government is doing to rebuild and what gaps remain. Our goal is to help fill those less visible gaps. For more info - see related links and visit: http://handreach.org/
